Scholarships

October 14 is the Deadline!

The deadline for fall scholarship applications in Classics and Humanities is October 14. Go to the Scholarship Office website for more information. You may need to produce evidence that you have applied for financial aid.

Thanks to The Friends of Classics, there are at least seven one-year scholarships available to students of Classics. All awards are made on the basis of merit. Students usually apply to the Department at the start of each fall semester. Please visit the SDSU Scholarship website at: http://www.sa.sdsu.edu/scholarship/.

Martha Biehl Memorial Scholarship: $500, usually for an advanced major or minor in Classics.

Viola Granstaff Memorial Scholarships: two at $1,000 each, usually for advanced majors or minors in Classics.

The Friends of Classics Charter Scholarships: three to four at $1,500 each, usually reserved for first-year Classics majors. High school seniors are encouraged to apply for the Charter scholarships. Awards are contingent on registration in Greek or Latin courses as matriculated Classics majors.

This year The Friends of Classics granted partial scholarships to eleven students participating in Professor Joseph Smith’s study-tour of Greece.

Robert and Paula Cottam Memorial Scholarship: $2,500, reserved for an advanced major in Classics.

In addition to the Classics scholarships, the Department usually recommends a Classics or Humanities major for a University Scholarship. Students must apply through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. See the SDSU Scholarship website for information and applications: http://www.sa.sdsu.edu/scholarship/.

The David A. Stepsay Fund (Classics 1984), annually provides stipends for student peer advisers in Greek and Latin.
